In most cases, manufacturers have not yet found a
cost-effective way to mass produce them.

These
“Pocket laboratories” are capable of performing
automatic complete analysis, even of the smallest samples
small liquids, integrating all the necessary functions in
a chip only a few inches long. In the last
years, experts around the world have developed numerous

scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology
IPT, in Aachen, want to find out why so many LOCs have failed
a commercial success. And they are working with colleagues from GmbH &
Co. KG, a spin-off IPT, and ten other industrial partners
from Germany, Finland, Spain, the United Kingdom, France and Italy,
